Christmas Update, 2023

Dear Friends,
.
These verses in Philippians 2 have been on my mind as I meditate on the coming of Christ Jesus as a baby into this world (his creation).  He humbled Himself….and we are told to “let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…”  How can we ever fully grasp the humility it took for the Son of God to become man?!!  What an amazing Gift, unfathomable and immeasurable, yet ours for the taking!
.
The Team in Malawi together with us, want to wish you a very blessed Christmas season as you celebrate together with your families.
.
This year, we had a special fund-raiser for New Testaments.  We were able to purchase (and have received) 4200 New Testaments in the 2 local languages.  You have no idea how this helps the ministry of disciple-making and how excited the local people are to receive their very own copy of the Bible.  Thank you to all that participated in this fund-raiser.
.
We will be placing one more order before the year end since we have continued to receive gifts for this purpose.   If you wanted to be part of this but think you did not get in on the action in time – you still have time.…your Christmas present to Malawi.
 .
God has been good.  We have known all along that this ministry in Malawi is not ours, but God’s.  He has made the ministry flourish and grow beyond our greatest expectations.  And we are thankful.
.
We are also thankful for the amazing team of 3 men in Malawi that God has given us to do the work.  They are dedicated, faithful men of God.  Their hearts’ desire is to see their fellow Malawians come to faith in Christ. And God continues to answer this prayer.
.
Our goal when establishing this work was based on Acts 1:8 – growing the work from Mzuzu, to the rest of the Tumbuka speaking area in Northern Malawi, to the Chichewa speaking people in the center and south Malawi as well as nations bordering on Malawi, and finally to the ends of the earth.
.
This year marks the beginning of seeing the discipleship principles extend to the “ends of the earth”.  John Singinie (our team leader) has visited Kenya, Cameroon and Tanzania in response to invitations to share the discipleship methods DCI Malawi uses with the local people in various conferences.  We look forward to seeing how John’s training of a few faithful men via Whatsapp will cause many more to come to faith in Christ.
.
We are also in the process of possibly partnering with Awana.  It is still in the development stage; we would appreciate your prayers as we seek God’s direction in this.  This would allow us to have a ministry to the children as well, so that when they get older, they will be able to ward off the false teachings that are sure to attack them.  There is so much evil present in Malawi; many children fall captive to it.  We hear so many stories of the horrors of witchcraft, but also stories of people being saved out of witchcraft and the changes that it brings not only to that one person, but to his/her whole family and even their villages/communities.
.
Our team will have 2 weeks’ vacation over Christmas.  They will use this time to plant their crop of maize.  They have asked us to pray for good rains to make their crops grow.  This past year has seen people hungry due to poor crops (lack of rain, or too much rain and flooding); some recently having to boil green mangoes as their main source of food.  Inflation has gone rampant in Malawi.  Prices have gone up 40% overnight, making it very difficult for most families to have their basic needs met.
.
John (team leader) and Maureen have let us know that baby # 2 is expected to arrive in June.  God has answered their prayers. Gracious (their son) is already 5 years old and can speak English to us on the phone.
.
Christmas Greetings from our house to yours!
